About Animator 2010
For this year's competition, the challenge is to create an animation using the software Scratch. The competition is open to all Corpus Christi area school children under 17 years of age.

This year the challenge will be centered around a single theme, "Time Travel", and will allow the animators a great amount of creativity in their interpretation and execution of that theme.

Animator 2010 is a three step process:
   1. Competitors register and submit their entries.
   2. Five (5) Finalists qualify to compete in the "Animator's Showcase"
   3. One (1) First Place Winner is crowned as the "Texas Techies Animator 2010 Champion."

The motivation behind the competition is to raise the profile of technology education to young children in Texas. It has three specific aims:
  • To raise the profile of Technology Education as an important and exciting tool for community success.
  • To provide teachers with a new approach to motivating and enthusing students to learn.
  • The competition is aimed not only at technology teachers but to teachers of other subjects in which computing tools and techniques are increasingly being applied. In doing so we hoped to communicate the way in which technology is increasingly enabling advances in other discipline areas.

KEY DATES

  • September 5: Competition Launch
  • November 1: Deadline for submitting entries.
  • November 10: Shortlisted finalists notified.
  • Thursday, November 18: Final Showcase and Awards Ceremony.

ABOUT SCRATCH SOFTWARE

Scratch is freely-available interactive multimedia educational software from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It is intended to teach basic computer programming  concepts using simple manipulations of graphics, images and shapes.
