What is the purpose of the event?
The motivation behind the event is to raise the profile of technology education to young children in Texas. It has three specific aims:
1. To raise the profile of Technology Education as an important and exciting tool for community success.
2. To provide teachers with a new approach to motivating and enthusing students to learn.
3. The competition is aimed not only at technology teachers but to teachers of other subjects in which computing tools and techniques are increasingly being applied. In doing so we hoped to communicate the way in which technology is increasingly enabling advances in other discipline areas.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas Techies Organization is preparing for the Texas Techies Animator 2009 Competition on Friday, November 20, 2009.

Over 100 students from all over Corpus Christi are registered to participate in the competition. For this year's competition, the challenge is to create an animation using the software Scratch. Corpus Christi's Mayor Joe Adame will be the Guest of Honor as well as one of the judges.

· The first place prize is a Laptop Computer,

· The first 100 guests will get a FREE Whataburger,

· The first 50 families to attend will receive a FREE holiday turkey certificate,

· Free Child Safety kits, courtesy of American Income,

· Ice Rays prize pack, courtesy of Silver Spoon Prodigy Child Care

· All proceeds benefit the Food Bank of Corpus Christi and CASA of the Coastal Bend

· There will also be contests, drawings, and door prizes throughout the entire event.

Supporters include: Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, Corpus Christi's Mayor Joe Adame, Education Service Center, City of Corpus Christi Oso Recreational Center, HEB, Moody High school Minds in Motion Multimedia Club, Whataburger, and Solomon Ortiz Jr.

Booths will also include: Grande Communications, Computer Science at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, CoastalBendMamas.com, CASA of the Coastal Bend, American Income, Silver Spoon Prodigy Child Care, Social Media Club, Waddell & Reed, and lots more.

The goal is to have as much community support in engaging Corpus Christi students in math, science, and technology, as these are the most important factors in creating tomorrow's workforce.

Texas Techies Animator 2009!!

WHO/WHAT: Texas Techies Organization is hosting the Animator 2009 Competition in Corpus Christi, Texas. For this year's competition, the challenge is to create an animation using the software Scratch. The competition is open to all Corpus Christi area school children under 17 years of age. Corpus Christi's Mayor Joe Adame will be the Guest of Honor as well as judge

Animator 2009 is a two step process:

1. Competitors register and submit their entries.

2. Ten (10) finalists will qualify to compete in the "Animator's Scratch-Off" to be held on Friday, November 20, 2009.
